Pure WheelPure WheelThere something about a white sky that I like about photos. Perhaps is the way I was taught how to use negative space in architecture to affect moods. That puts in in good stead to start applying it in photography. It is always in the back of a photographers mind when they are composing. The more you do it the less you have to think about what you are doing. It just sort of becomes natural to you. I am not sure where I am on that scale but I like to think that it is nearly natural. But if you stop thinking about composition, then what will happen?

Movement at the Ageas Bowl

When you go and shoot architecture you sometimes have to be very patient for the right moment or sometimes that moment just never comes and you have to improvise. This was the latter of the two. I needed to get the back of the hotel that looks onto the cricket pitch. I recently was asked to take photos of the Hilton Hotel at the Ageas Bowl, Southampton and needed this shot. There was a very bright blue cheery picker finishing off some work that was in view at the hotel. I came back later on in the day and it was still there. In the end I decided to just take the shot and Photoshop it out along with the rest of the building work.

I also had the issue of getting movement in the sky combined with freezing the players on the pitch. I used a 10 stop ND filter to get movement in the sky but this showed too much movement for the players. I decided to combine 2 shots in the end to allow me to freeze the action. Doesn’t really work too badly.
